About the Conference
The U.S. Section selected San Francisco as the location for the next Congress for many reasons but mostly because there is so much "navigation-related" to see and do in the Bay area. The city of San Francisco is a bustling city with a population of 4,335,391. The city enjoys balmy weather, with average temperatures in June ranging from 12 C - 20 C. There are many "navigation-related" things to see and do in the Bay area. The Ports of San Francisco and Oakland are nearby, tourist attractions abound, not to mention the nearby Napa Valley and Sonoma - our own "wine country" in the United States. In 2011, there were 16.35 million total visitors to all of San Francisco. Many of the city's leading tourist attractions are located at or off the port, including the famous Fisherman's Wharf and the island of Alcatraz.
